6 Steps to Become a Notary in Ohio

Becoming a notary in Ohio requires you to take the following six steps.

Step 1

Meet the state's requirements: 1) At least 18 years old, 2) Ohio resident or Ohio-licensed attorney with primary practice in Ohio, and 3) No disqualifying criminal convictions

Step 2

Get a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check.

Step 3

Take our online notary training course, pass the exam (if required) and receive your certificate of completion.

Step 4

Create an account on the Ohio Secretary of State’s website, upload the required documents and submit your application.

Step 5

Receive your commission via email.

Step 6
