If you're thinking, "My notary commission expired--what now?" you're not alone. Renewing your notary commission in Ohio is a straightforward process, but it must be followed precisely. This guide walks you through every step of your Ohio notary renewal, including deadlines, required documents, and what to do if your commission has already lapsed.

How Long is a Notary Commission Valid in Ohio?

For non-attorneys, a traditional Ohio notary commission is valid for 5 years. You can renew your commission starting 3 months before your expiration date.

Important: There is no grace period after expiration--if your commission lapses, you must apply as a new notary.
